This means the following will be banned from 2026 onwards:
- Generic environmental claims such as “environmental friendly”, “climate neutral” and “sustainable” will be banned if these are made without any evidence
- No more Carbon offset claims - claims based on pure offsetting rather than real reductions won’t be allowed anymore
- Future claims must be checked and verified by independent third parties
This is a huge step forward for consumers - to feel more empowered about their product choices and the ability to make transparent purchasing decisions.
For businesses this means real reduction, sustainable products and careful choice of marketing claims. In order to communicate a positive climate impact, real reductions need to be achieved within the supply chain - rather than growing revenue and emissions and making up for it through non-related offset projects.
